What is Botulinum Toxin Type-A?
Botulinum Toxin Type-A has been in use for over 35 years as a treatment for squints and neurological tics. The substance is produced by bacteria, and is then highly refined, purified and diluted. This treatment is probably the most popular cosmetic medical treatment for facial lines and wrinkles in the UK and can be used successfully in combination with other rejuvenation treatments.
It works by temporarily relaxing the muscles under the skin so that when you frown or smile, the treated muscles stay relaxed and don't crease the skin. Results are temporary — anti-wrinkle injections typically last 3–4 months, after which the treatment can be repeated.
Treatment Areas
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid — a substance naturally found in the body — to restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. Results are visible immediately and typically last 6–18 months depending on the product used and area treated.
Common uses include lip enhancement, cheek volume, nasolabial folds (nose-to-mouth lines), and under-eye hollows.
Who Should Not Have These Treatments
- • Pregnant or breastfeeding women
- • Anyone with certain neuromuscular conditions (e.g. myasthenia gravis)
- • Anyone with a known allergy to any component of the product
- • Anyone taking certain medications — please disclose all medications at consultation
These treatments are not available to anyone under 18 years of age. This is a legal requirement under the Botulinum Toxin and Cosmetic Fillers (Children) Act 2021.
